If you are itching to get a replacement for Outlook for Mac 2011, you’re in luck. While you’ll have to wait till sometime in the first half of 2015 for the public beta version of Office for Mac 2015 and the second half for the full version, Microsoft gave Office 365 subscribers a treat on Halloween by announcing the release of Outlook for Mac 2015. Although you can type in a person's email address while you compose a message or create a meeting invitation, Outlook provides a variety of ways to store and find addresses for you. • Auto-complete: Outlook remembers addresses you've sent to and received from, so when you begin to type in the To, Cc, or Bcc field, Outlook will look for matching addresses and auto-complete the entry for you. • Contact lists: You can maintain your own Contacts list (or lists), with as much or as little information on each person as you like. If you type the beginning of a name that is in a contact list in the To, Cc, or Bcc field, then tab out of the field or move the cursor to another part of the window, Outlook will complete the entry, but only if it finds a single match. You can also create Groups, which allow you to send a message to a group of people without typing all of their addresses, and without sharing their addresses with each other. • Global Address List: This is a directory of everyone at George Mason University. In the standard configuration, when you type in the To, Cc, or Bcc field, Outlook will begin to search for a match. It will check the Auto-complete information first. Then it will search through your contact list, and finally it will search the address books. It will stop searching when it finds a match. If Outlook finds a few close matches, it will place a red underline under the entry. Right-click on the entry to select the right match. An easy way to add a Contact is to right-click (or ctrl-click) on a message from the person you want to add, select Sender, then select Add to Contacts. A new Contact card will open with the sender's name and email address filled in. To add a new contact from scratch, click Contacts in the Navigation Pane, then click Contact in the Home ribbon. When you're done with this card, click Save & Close. To edit an existing contact, double-click on it. To delete a contact, click on it and press Delete on your keyboard, or right-click and select Delete in the drop-down menu. You can create a list of people under one name, making it easy to send a message to that group of addresses all at once. You can add addresses to the group from your contact list and the address books, or you can type or copy the email addresses into the group list. A Group dialog box will open. • Give your group a name (like Co-workers, Planning Committee members, Fan club, etc.). • (Optional) The Use Bcc checkbox controls whether the recipients will see each other's addresses when they receive a message. If you leave the box UNchecked, all members of your group will see the addresses for ALL group members. If you check the box, even if you put the group in the To or Cc field, Outlook will treat it as if you had put the group in the Bcc field, so each group member will only see their own address. This is often a good thing. • You can drag-and-drop entries from your Contacts list, or click Add in the Group dialog box's ribbon and type a name or address. • When you've added all the names to the list (for now), click Save & Close.
